The Environmental Processes and Change in Natural Systems research cluster focuses on the physical and biological complexities of the natural environment. Through integrated field studies and laboratory analysis, we investigate environmental processes across varying temporal scales—from the circumpolar Arctic and boreal forests to the wetlands and grasslands of temperate regions.
Our research covers ecohydrology, biogeochemistry, remote sensing, environmental change, and the physical dynamics of water and climate. This cluster also hosts the Arctic Research Group, led by Laura Brown, Igor Lehnherr, and Trevor Porter, which explores natural system responses to climate change using biogeochemical, cryospheric, and paleoclimatological approaches.
