Beyond the range of TA and RA opportunities offered to all graduate students by CPS, we offer a variety of complementary support, both at the Departmental and Campus level, to help enrich your graduate research experience at UTM:

  • CPS Graduate Student Welcome Manual

The CPS Graduate Student Welcome Manual includes several CPS and UTM specific information that may be particularly helpful to new graduate student with their transition.

The Department of Chemical and Physical Sciences (CPS) provides graduate students with up to $2500 annually to support travel to attend and present research results at academic conferences.

To help alleviate some stress around extended time in graduate students’ program, the Department of Chemical and Physical Sciences (CPS) provides up to $3000 to MSc and PhD students in their first year out of the funded cohort for a period between 3 to 6 months.

The Department of Chemical and Physical Sciences (CPS) provides graduate students with one-time funding of $1000 towards purchasing a personal computer.

The Department of Chemical and Physical Sciences (CPS) wishes to recognize and celebrate graduate student's major research accomplishments by awarding them with the CPS First Paper Award. Awardees will receive a $50 gift card in recognition of this award. 

The CPS Mentor Café program is being established to help new graduate students (MSc and PhD) navigate life at UTM. New graduate students wishing to participate in the program will be matched with a current graduate student volunteer.

The Department of Chemical and Physical Sciences (CPS) provides an annual fellowship of up to $2500 to develop pedagogical skills by working on original and innovative lectures, tutorials, or new laboratory exercises in undergraduate courses. 

The Department of Chemical and Physical Sciences (CPS) provides graduate students funding of up to $500 annually to expand their skill sets through online courses, workshops, career and professional development programs, etc. 

With research becoming increasingly international, interdisciplinary, and collaborative, the Department of Chemical and Physical Sciences (CPS) will be providing funding of up to $6000 annually to support research visits to other Canadian or International institutions. 

The Department of Chemical and Physical Sciences (CPS), in collaboration with the School of Graduate Studies (SGS) and Graduate Units, provides financial support for graduate students during their approved parental leave.
