NSERC Alliance

NSERC Alliance funding supports R&D collaborations between Canadian university researchers and partners from the private, public, or not-for-profit sectors, as well as opportunities for Canadian researchers to work with national and international academic counterparts. The following are ongoing Alliance funding opportunities:

Alliance Advantage

Overview 

Formerly known as Alliance cost-sharing option 1, Alliance Advantage grants support projects driven by private, public, or not-for-profit sector partners. NSERC will contribute up to 66.7% (2:1 leverage) of the project’s direct costs for successful applications.

Details

Value: $20,000 to $1 million per year (see cost sharing requirements)

Duration: 1 to 5 years

Deadlines: None (application can be submitted any time)

Eligibility: Canadian university researchers who are eligible to receive NSERC funds. College faculty can participate as co-applicants. See the Alliance Advantage Partners page for partner organization eligibility criteria.

There is also the opportunity to submit a join NSERC Alliance-Mitacs Accelerate application for Alliance Advantage proposals. For joint initiatives, you must contact our Mitacs business development representative, Modupe Olufemi, for more information.

Alliance Society

Overview 

Formerly known as Alliance option 2, Alliance Society grants support projects with the potential for societal impact and which are pursued in collaboration with private, public, or not-for-profit sector partners. If funded, NSERC will cover 100% of project costs.

Alliance International

Overview

Alliance International grants provide supports for Canadian university researchers who want to work in partnership with international collaborators from the academic sector.

  • $25,000 (Catalyst grants) paused
  • up to $100,000 per year (Collaboration grants) paused

Duration: 1 year (Catalyst grants) up to 3 years (Collaboration grants)
