The Office of the Vice-Principal, Research and Innovation (OVPRI) provides expertise across research development, partnerships and innovation, research administration, communications, and specialized research facilities. Our interdisciplinary team works together to connect researchers with the right expertise, helping them advance their work and pursue research excellence.
We also connect researchers through events and training, providing accessible, practical guidance on topics ranging from grant development to navigating research supports and partnership development. Through our suite of UTM Research Prizes, we support researchers at different career stages, and create opportunities to showcase outstanding scholarship, and bring the research community together to celebrate achievements across disciplines.
How We Partner With Researchers
Developing Ideas & Securing Funding
From developing a funding strategy to strengthening grant applications, our Strategic Research Development Officers help researchers build competitive funding proposals. Services include 1:1 consultations, proposal development support, editorial and budget reviews, and budget templates. Researchers can also access our grant repository to help guide their applications.
Building Research Partnerships
Our Partnerships & Innovation team helps researchers connect with industry, community organizations, government partners, and other potential external collaborators. Support includes partnership development, assisting with sponsored research agreements and grant applications, knowledge mobilization opportunities, and pathways to commercialization and innovation.
Accessing Research Infrastructure & Expertise
Researchers have access to a range of shared resources and specialized facilities that support discovery and innovation. From collaborative spaces to core facilities and advanced research infrastructure, we help ensure researchers can access the tools, training, and expertise needed to advance their work.
Navigating Research Administration
We provide guidance on institutional research processes, helping researchers navigate grant application submissions, University and sponsor policies, approvals, and compliance requirements. Our goal is to reduce administrative barriers so researchers can focus on their research.
