Alison wins award against blue background with stars

We’re delighted to announce that Alison Hughes, who completed a double major in Italian and Linguistics, is this year’s winner of the UTM Outstanding Program Performance Award for our department!

Alison was nominated by Prof. Teresa Lobalsamo and Prof. Jessamyn Schertz, with the strong support of our Department Chair, Prof. Arsalan Kahnemuyipour. Their nomination letter noted "Alison demonstrates exceptional academic performance, reflected in her impressive 3.93 GPA and in the unanimous praise received from faculty across different subfields." Alison was also commended for her dedication beyond the classroom as lab manager of the UTM Language Acquisition and Processing (LAP) Lab and as a recipient of the University of Toronto Excellence Award.

Alison shares that ITA272 (Italian Linguistics), LIN369 (Romance Linguistics), JLP388 (Bilingualism and Multiple Language Acquisition), and ITA350 (Intermediate-Advanced Italian) were some of her favourite courses for the excellent professors, engaging material, and the way they allowed her to connect and integrate her majors.

We wish Alison all the best as she begins her Master’s in Speech-Language Pathology at UofT in September!

Congratulations, Alison!
