On April 27, 2025, three of our students from CHI104 and CHI204 participated in the 24th annual "Chinese Bridge" Chinese Proficiency Competition, and we're happy to share that they did quite well!
The “Chinese Bridge” (汉语桥) Chinese Proficiency Competition is a large-scale international contest organized by the Center for Language Education and Cooperation (CLEC) under China’s Ministry of Education. Since its launch in 2002, the competition has been held annually, offering a platform for Chinese language learners to showcase their linguistic abilities, cultural knowledge, and artistic talents. It aims to ignite students' enthusiasm for learning Chinese while promoting the language and fostering a deeper appreciation of Chinese culture.
The preliminary competition for university students in Ontario and Manitoba, sponsored by CLEC and the Consulate-General of the People's Republic of China in Toronto, was held at Renison University College, University of Waterloo this year.
As with every year, this year’s competition was highly competitive. Sofia Guzman Molina (CHI104H5) won Third Prize, while Diore Thorpe (CHI204H5) and Harshita Nagireddy (CHI104H5) received an Excellence Award. Congratulations, Sofia, Diore, and Harshita! We wish you continued success in your Chinese learning journey.
We are grateful to Dr. Xinliang Jiang and Dr. Xiaohui Ren for inspiring and guiding our students learning Chinese as a second language.
Additional photos and a video recap of the event have been shared by the Consulate General of China in Toronto.
