Christopher Ford

Honours Bachelor of Arts, Social Science • York University

Christopher Ford has long known that he has wanted to pursue a career promoting the assurance of human rights and human wellbeing. To this end, Christopher undertook his Bachelor of Arts with Honours in Social Science concentrating in Equity & Social Policy at York University. There, Christopher excelled both academically, making the Dean’s list each year of his four-year degree, being awarded membership in the Golden Key International Honour Society, and winning the Dr. James Wu Prize for his submission to the 2015 York University Undergraduate Research Fair, and as an engaged member of the York community where he pursued his passion and interests through volunteerism, including as an Editor in Chief of an on-campus newspaper, The Vandoo, as a co-founder of the Vanier College Against Bullying, and as a volunteer with the York University Centre for Human Rights, the York Lions Men’s Rugby Club, and the Green Campus Cooperative. Most significantly for his professional development was the time he spent working throughout his undergraduate degree, where he worked in various capacities including in student engagement, marketing, customer service, and more. He graduated magna cum laude in 2016, receiving a Certificate of proficiency in French in addition to his degree, and along the way accumulating an impressive array of recognition awards and scholarships.

After his degree, Christopher held a six-month internship position at the City of Markham's Sustainability Office, where he consulted with various stakeholders to redevelop the Sustainable Purchasing Guide and performed research to support the development of Markham's Municipal Energy Plan. Not long after, Christopher was hired by the Markham Village Business Improvement Area (MVBIA) to take on the role of Office Coordinator & Marketing Associate, where he is responsible for office operations and management, including supervision of summer staff, and development and implementation of the MVBIA’s Marketing Strategy.

What began to stand out to Christopher from all of his learning and experience was the intimate connection between the environment, the economy, and human well-being, and this is ultimately what led him to the MScSM program.

In his spare time, Christopher is a freelance graphic designer and marketing consultant, and enjoys spending time with his fiancé, reading, watching films, and enjoying a great cup of coffee.
