Bio

David graduated from McMaster University in 2022 with an Honours Bachelor of Commerce in Integrated Business and Humanities and an interdisciplinary minor in sustainability. While completing his undergraduate degree, David had the opportunity to explore topics such as social entrepreneurship, strategic philanthropy, implementation of sustainable change, effective leadership, and community engagement. David had the opportunity to complete an exchange program studying at Vrije Universiteit in Amsterdam, Netherlands. He chose to specifically study in Amsterdam, as the city is world renown for their approach towards environmental sustainability.

Throughout his undergraduate degree, David had the opportunity to participate in numerous experiential learning projects in partnership with local non-profit organizations such as Green Venture, Hamilton Centre for Civic Inclusion, and Environment Hamilton. In his final year, David and his group were awarded the McMaster Climate Change and Health Innovation award for their project focusing on tree equity and increasing canopy coverage rates in low-income communities in Hamilton.

David developed a passion for the environment and sustainability after witnessing first-hand the detrimental effects of deforestation in the Amazon Rainforest during a trip to Ecuador. His passion, education, and experience has led him towards a career in sustainability and an aspiration to make a positive impact in his community.

Professionally, David worked as a Communications Advisor at the Brant County Health Unit where he developed marketing strategies that helped increase community awareness of public health programs. In this role, David collaborated with Brant County Health Unit program areas to improve health promotion and educate the local community on public health topics such as mental health, environmental health, infectious diseases, substance use, and health equity. Furthermore, David completed a Marketing and Communications internship with Hamilton non-profit organization, the Immigrant Working Centre. In this role, David successfully facilitated the promotional campaign for the organization’s new online program that aimed to increase the accessibility and availability of English language classes during the height of the pandemic.

Outside of his academic and professional life, David spends his time going for hikes with his dog, trying different local restaurants, listening to music, and travelling. On any given day you can find David trying new local coffeeshops, spending time with his friends, and thrift shopping.
