Bio

In 2013, Nicole graduated from Wilfrid Laurier University with a Bachelor of Arts (Hons.) in Environmental Studies with the Management Option. Throughout her undergraduate experience, her academics focosed on sustainability, GIS/ cartographic applications, geographic phenomena, and management practices. Upon graduation, Nicole moved to London, England where she worked and traveled. This provided the opportunity to experience different cultures and enhance her adaptability and interpersonal skills. During this year abroad, Nicole accepted her offer of admission to the Master of Science in Sustainability Management graduate program with the University of Toronto. In her first year of studies, Nicole strengthened her collaborative thinking and leadership skills through a collection of group projects and initiatives. Focusing her individual research on the environmental implications of factory farming and personal care products, Nicole was able to better define her career goals.

Outside of academia, Nicole had kept busy with a variety of professional and volunteer experiences. Throughout her undergraduate degree, Nicole remained an active volunteer with the Wilfrid Laurier University Students’ Union. She devoted her time to both the EcoHawks (an on-campus environmental group) and Shinerama (a cystic fibrosis awareness and fundraising group). Both of these organizations left Nicole equipped with better project management and communication skills, which she gained from the planning and execution of a number of events and workshops. In the summer directly following her undergraduate degree, Nicole worked for her hometown municipality, the Town of Saugeen Shores, as a GIS Technician. This allowed her to put her undergraduate degree to use through hands-on application. More recently, Nicole completed her MScSM Placement as a Research Assistant with Corporate Knights. Through this, invaluable experience was gained with regards to research parameters and the present state of sustainability.

In her spare time, Nicole enjoys reading, running, spending time with family and friends, and traveling. She also has an active interest in researching and applying vegetarian/ vegan diets and lifestyles, and sustainable personal care products to her own life.
