Bio

Dena graduated from the University of Guelph in 2020 with a Bachelor of Arts and Science in Political Science and Ecology. During her undergraduate degree, Dena explored courses based in the arts, social sciences and sciences, which sparked her passion for analyzing holistic problems. After completing her undergraduate degree, Dena completed a Graduate Certificate in Ecosystem Restoration at Niagara College. The program provided Dena with hands on experience within the environmental industry, and direct work experience with conservation authorities, and NGOs.

Dena spent two years working as an Environmental Scientist with an environmental consulting firm that focused on fluvial geomorphology. Through this role, Dena gained insight into environmental compliance and housing development procedures within Ontario. In this role, Dena also trained staff on completing field assessments, and drone procedures. Dena is actively involved in the Rattray Marsh Protection Association as a board member. Through the board, Dena works directly to support conservation action within the marsh. Dena has always been drawn to creating a positive impact on the world around her and hopes to broaden her impact through the MScSM program.

In her spare time, Dena loves being outdoors for a hike or to read by the lake. She enjoys travelling, hiking, spending time with friends, and eating great food. Dena continues to challenge herself through long distance running and yoga.
