Salvatore Bancheri is a Full Professor of Italian. He was Interim Chair of the Department of Language Studies, UTM at the University of Toronto Mississauga (July 2022 – December 2023). He was Chair and Emilio Goggio Chair of the Department of Italian Studies, University of Toronto (St. George Campus, UofT, 2011 – July 2019); Graduate Coordinator and Associate Chair of the Department of Italian Studies (2006–2007; 2009–2011); Acting Chair and Graduate Chair of the Department of Italian Studies (2007–2008); and Acting Associate Chair, Department of Language Studies. He was also Director of the Frank Iacobucci Centre for Italian Canadian Studies (2005 – July 2019); Editor of Italian Canadiana (2004 – July 2019); President of the American Association of Teachers of Italian (AATI, 2015–2017); Secretary Treasurer of AATI (2010–2013); Director of Communications of AATI (2007–2013). He is a member of the editorial board of numerous peer-reviewed journals.

Professor Bancheri has published and edited 20 issues of the referred journal Italian Canadiana, 6 books of the Iacobucci Monograph Series, 7 edited books, 3 monographs, and authored numerous refereed articles. As Editor of the Series “Emilio Goggio Chair in Italian Studies Series" printed by Franco Cesati Editore (Italy), he has published 6 volumes. He was a member of the UTP Manuscript Committee (2009–2019) and has evaluated the publication of over 70 manuscripts. He has co-authored many Italian language textbooks with some of the most prestigious publishing houses in North America (Random House, Heinle & Heinle, Thomson Heinle, etc.). In 2007, his course ITA312/313Y Italian Theatre: Text and Performance was nominated for inclusion in the College Board AP World Languages Best Practices Study in Italian Language and Culture.
