Weekly Commitment: Approximately 7 hours per week

Wage Rate: $36.16/hour plus 4% vacation pay

In an effort to implement recommendations from the anti-black racism task force to promote Black inclusion and excellence at the University of Toronto, the Institute for the Study of University Pedagogy has created a working group focused on implementing anti-racist work in ISUP. The anti-black racism (ABR) working group comprises faculty and staff who have focused on implementing initiatives including the anti-racist library guide; courses informed by anti- racist pedagogy and programming that educate staff about anti-racist practices and principles. ISUP and the ABR working group would like to hire an enthusiastic graduate student to assist with several activities undertaken by the ABR Working Group. Specifically, we aim to hire a graduate student to do the following:

  1. Conduct literature review and develop a selected reading list that will be used as core literature that will inform collective discussions of the anti-racist learning community

  2. Assist with drafting an ethics protocol that will be submitted to the University of Toronto’s Ethics Review Board

  3. Attend regularly scheduled meetings with supervisor and stakeholders. In person meetings held on the UTM campus will typically occur monthly, with other meetings taking place virtually.

  4. Assist with organizing the agenda for monthly meetings and write detailed meetings notes for the ARLC. This will also include following up on outstanding tasks and conducting research for the ABR working group.

Required Skills and Experience:

  • Ability to work independently

  • Ability to work collaboratively or in a team

  • Must be able to communicate clearly in writing

  • Experience with writing literature reviews and writing annotated bibliographies

Has experience and interest in equity and diversity initiatives including research on anti- black racism and anti- racism, more broadly

Preferred Qualifications: The ideal candidate will have experience with creating ethics protocols and have an interest in anti-racist initiatives and research. Preference will be given to graduate student.
