Weekly Commitment: Approximately 7 hours per week

Wage Rate: $30/hour plus 4% vacation pay

In an effort to implement recommendations from the anti-black racism task force to promote Black inclusion and excellence at the University of Toronto, the Institute for the Study of University Pedagogy has created a working group focused on implementing anti-racist work in ISUP. The anti-black racism (ABR) working group comprises faculty and staff who have focused on implementing initiatives including the anti-racist library guide; courses informed by anti- racist pedagogy and programming that educate staff about anti-racist practices and principles. ISUP and the ABR working group would like to hire an enthusiastic graduate student to assist with several activities undertaken by the ABR Working Group. Specifically, we aim to hire a graduate student to do the following:

Other Details: The successful candidate will work under the supervision of Assistant Professor, Janine Rose. Only those who qualify for an interview will be contacted.

  1. Conduct research on relevant topics including research on global anti-black racism frameworks that are used at different tertiary institutions

  2. Write a report on the results of the environmental scan

  3. Present research at selected meetings

  4. Attend regularly scheduled meetings with supervisor and stakeholders

  5. Conduct additional research as needed

Required Skills and Experience:

  • Ability to work independently

  • Ability to work collaboratively or in a team

  • Must be able to communicate clearly in writing

  • Experience with conducting anti-racist research using applicable databases and search engines

  • Has experience and interest in equity and diversity initiatives including research on anti- black racism and anti- racism, more broadly

Preferred Qualifications: The ideal candidate will have some knowledge of global anti-racist frameworks, experience with conducting environmental scans and literature reviews.

Additionally, the preferred candidate is a graduate student with an interest in anti-racist initiatives and research.
