Ready to Apply?
Things to Keep in Mind
- Applicants must submit all documents and payment of the non-refundable* first installment for the application to be considered complete. We will use the timestamp of submission of the application document or payment, whichever comes last;
- All forms must be filled out electronically;
- Payment submissions must be made electronically via credit card;
- Applications open at 12 pm (noon) and close at 11:45 pm on the corresponding dates.
* For academic trips: If you are unable to get into the course beyond circumstances within your control, you will have the opportunity to appeal and get the first instalment refunded.
How to Apply
- Review the information on the UTM Abroad pages including the Terms of Participation and Refund & Cancellation Policies.
- Complete the UTM Abroad Application through the UTM Abroad Portal (the application will prompt you for your first payment in the amount of $250).
- Funding and Bursaries - see here under Funding Available.
- Wait for the International Education Centre to review your application. We will contact you with more details on the next steps. Contact us at utmabroad@utoronto.ca should you have any questions.
Application Time-lines
Please note: Depending on the volume of applicants and the time of year, timelines may shift slightly. Please feel free to reach out to the UTM Abroad team with any concerns.
- Application status updates will be shared 1-2 weeks after the application deadline.
- If you applied for a bursary (funding), you will receive your bursary decision at the same time as your application status update.
- If you are accepted, you will have 3-5 days to confirm your decision. We encourage you to ensure you’re ready for the opportunity so you can respond comfortably within the timeframe.

UTM Abroad Academic Experiences
For in-person opportunities, you will travel to a location pertinent to your studies and deepen your learning through first-hand experience. For virtual opportunities, you will be connected with partners worldwide for engaging discussions and activities to connect your learning to lived experiences. Before, during, and after the international experience, UTM faculty will connect the course content back to the global experience. You must be enrolled in the corresponding course to participate in the Academic Abroad Experiences. If you have questions, please reach out to us. UTM Abroad Co-Curricular Experiences
Learn about a topic of interest in a unique location, participate in unparalleled community engagement initiatives that will expand your global mindset and develop an understanding of community development and social change. In-person opportunities allow you to travel to the international community, and virtual opportunities allow you to connect with the international community online. Co-curricular is not strictly tied to a course. See more here.
