Certificate in Ancient Languages

Certificate in Ancient Languages—Launching September 2026!

Designed to complement your studies and provide additional opportunities for academic and professional development, this certificate will allow you to develop a strong foundation in one or two ancient languages (Greek and/or Latin) and gain a historical understanding of your study. You will cultivate working relationships with faculty, explore independent research and collaboration opportunities, and obtain a transcript notation signaling your language proficiency. The program is open to all undergraduate students completing programs at UTM.

The certificate requirements can be fulfilled alongside your degree and will appear on your academic transcript upon successful completion of the following requirements: 

2.0 credits are required: 

  1. 0.5 credit in CLA (Classical Civilization)
  2. 1.5 credits to be chosen from the following list: LAT101H5 or LAT102H5 or LAT213H5 or LAT221H5 or GRK101H5 or GRK102H5 or GRK213H5 or GRK221H5. An average grade of 60% or higher across all language courses is required.

Information about eligibility, completion requirements, and how to enrol can be found on the Academic Calendar. Courses taken prior to September 2026 are eligible to count towards the certificate.
