History and Political Science - Joint Specialist

History and Political Science explores historical and conceptual thinking about the various ways that societies have organized and governed themselves from medieval times to the present. From History, students learn methods for historical study through surveys covering long periods in regions around the world, temporally-defined courses focused on everything from the medieval period through the early twenty-first century, to research-intensive seminars on themes such as partition in South Asia, colonialism in North America, or the Holocaust. From Political Science, students take foundational courses in political theory, Canadian politics and government, and research methods for political science. Building on these empirical and theoretical foundations, students continue to learn key skills and investigate core concepts like authority, legitimacy, liberty, equality, citizenship, governance, and justice by pursuing further coursework in comparative politics, international relations, public policy and public administration.
