Theatre and Drama Studies joint program updates

Important changes are coming to the Theatre and Drama Studies joint program offered by the University of Toronto Mississauga and Sheridan College.

Since late last year, Sheridan has been going through organizational changes and efficiency reviews. More recently, Sheridan shared with UTM that it is phasing out its portion of the Theatre and Drama Studies joint program effective Fall 2026.

What this means for prospective students

UTM remains committed to providing one of the country's leading drama programs. We have designed a new version of the program that will be delivered exclusively at UTM and will admit its first students as the class of 2026, with auditions taking place in February and March 2026. A new website describes the program in detail.

What this means for current students

Current students will be supported through this transition and have the opportunity to graduate from the joint program offered by UTM and Sheridan. The joint program will continue with the same studio hours and production related experiences for current students to ensure their success.

We’re extremely proud of what UTM and Sheridan have achieved together over the past 35 years, and are looking forward to what’s ahead for this distinctive and unique program. Please reach to Professor Holger Syme, Associate Chair of Drama and Director of Drama Studies by emailing holger.syme@utoronto.ca if you have any questions.
