Earth Ring Ceremony

Senior Earth Science Students Receive Earth Rings

Four of our CPS senior earth science students received their Earth Rings last Friday: Juliana Sideritz, Aneila Ghanie, Jimena Carrillo Lay, and Bartosz Bartonezz (Bartosz not present in picture). The ceremony was held at the St George faculty club, with recent earth science graduates from all three of U of T campuses.

The Earth Ring Ceremony is a ritual to welcome newly qualified geoscientists into the profession by senior practicing geologists. It is earned by meeting the knowledge requirements for membership in Professional Geoscientists. These new graduates may now register as Professional Geoscientists In Training. The ring is marked with a seismic trace and geological hammers worn on the pinky of the working hand. It is a symbol of the scientific and ethical commitments and responsibilities that come with being a professional geoscientist.

Congratulations on this well-deserved achievement!
