Adrien Rannaud is an Assistant Professor of Quebec and Francophone Canadian literatures in the Department of Language Studies (UTM), with a graduate appointment in the Department of French (St. George).
Dr Rannaud’s research focuses on the literary and cultural history of Quebec (19th century–20th century), women’s writing and cultural practices, the history of media culture, celebrity studies, and middlebrow culture. His first book, De l'amour et de l'audace. Femmes et roman au Québec dans les années 1930 (PUM, 2018), was awarded the Gabrielle-Roy Prize by the Association for Canadian and Québec Literatures and was a finalist for the 2018 Canada Prizes in the Humanities and Social Sciences by the Federation for the Humanities and Social Sciences. His most recent book, La Révolution du magazine. Poétique historique de La Revue moderne (1919–1960) (Editions Nota Bene, 2021), studies the development of one of the first magazines in Quebec, La Revue moderne, and the influence it exerted in the literary and public spheres. He is currently working on a SSHRC-funded research project on celebrity culture in the press in Quebec.
Dr Rannaud is a collaborating member of the Centre de recherche interuniversitaire sur la littérature et la culture québécoises (CRILCQ) and the Groupe de recherches et d’études sur le livre au Québec (GRÉLQ). He is currently President of the Association québécoise pour l’étude de l’imprimé (AQÉI) and co-editor of the scholarly journal Arborescences.
