Meet Barend Beekhuizen! He joined the Department of Language Studies in 2018 as an Assistant Professor in Computational Linguistics. His primary interest is the development of computational models that shed light on word meaning. He primarily focuses on how languages vary in how they carve up or categorize the world with their words, how this variation can inform us about the mental representation of categories, and how such types are used in discourse.
