UTM111H5: Tools of the Trade (SCI, SSc)


The 0.5 credit from this course can be used toward either your Science (SCI) or Social Science (SSc) distribution requirement.  Offered in the Winter 2023 term (January-April).

This course is an introduction to the common problem-solving tools used in the sciences and social sciences. It is designed to address the fundamental skills needed for comprehension and effective communication in these areas. The skills being addressed may include critical analysis of texts (primary literature, review papers, textbooks), use of databases to gather, manipulate and visualize data; interpretation and presentation of data; information gathering and writing skills (lab reports, critical essays); and oral presentations.

In the Winter 2023 term, course participants will engage with essential academic skills while investigating the theme of sustainability with reference to the dynamics between the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and environmental and societal needs and aspirations.
