Economic Thought

Description: This course follows the history of economic thought from pre-modern times into the present day. The major emphasis is on the evolution of classical economic thought as it emerged in the late 18th and early 19th century into the modern discipline of economics that we know today. The goal is to provide students with an understanding of where modern economics came from, what sorts of problems economics has addressed over its history, and how the intellectual roots of the discipline influence working economists today.

Empirical Industrial Organization

Description: This course focuses on quantitative analysis of firms' strategies in real-world industries, using tools from applied microeconomics and statistics. Topics include: studies of monopoly, oligopoly, imperfect competition, and the estimation of demand and cost functions that underpin these markets

Economics of Innovation:

Description: This course will teach students how to analyze firms and markets, with emphasis on innovation and competition. Topics include: economic growth and productivity, the process of creative destruction, the innovator’s dilemma, the incentives to innovate, product differentiation, dynamic optimization, artificial intelligence, and patent statistics.
