What is Biology?
Biology is the science of living organisms, relating to major human problems such as starvation, overpopulation, conservation, pollution, and to the entire field of medicine and disease. Courses offered in Biology focus on the structure, function and evolution of biological systems, from the molecular level up to the ecosystem and biosphere levels.
Potential Careers Opportunities
- Research: in areas such as environmental problems, natural resources, wildlife management, conservation, pollution and pest control, as well as physiological and microbiological research
- Business and Industry: including biological supply companies, pharmaceuticals, food and dairy industries and biotechnology
- Teaching/academia: professor, instructor, research assistant
- Forensics: identification and individualization of body fluids
