Roy Ivor Memorial Award in Biology

This award is given to the student who has achieved a high academic standing in BIO205 (Ecology) and has a genuine interest in ecology. The award was established in 1981 by friends in memory of the late Roy Ivor. Dr. Ivor was an internationally known ornithologist and author who welcomed many students and staff from the University of Toronto Mississauga to the Winding Lane Bird Sanctuary, which was located across from the campus.

Alan F. Coventry Memorial Scholarship, Parts I & II

These awards were originally established in 1974 by friends and colleagues in memory of the late Prof. Alan Coventry. Prof. Coventry made significant contributions to the University of Toronto throughout his lifetime. He lived in Streetsville after retiring and frequently visited the young Erindale College campus. He donated a collection of local plants to the campus and maintained a strong interest in what is now the University of Toronto Mississauga.

  • Part I is awarded to the student with the highest academic standing in three of eight second-year Biology courses (BIO202, BIO203, BIO205, BIO206, BIO207, BIO208, BIO209 or BIO259).
  • Part II is awarded to the third-year student who has made the greatest contribution to the Department of Biology, based on nominations from Biology faculty and staff.

Jufiyah Rajan Memorial Scholarship in Biology

This award is given to the first-year student with the highest average in BIO152 and BIO153. The award was originally established in 2001 by the Erindale Biological Society, family, and friends in memory of Jufiyah Rajan, a student at the University of Toronto Mississauga whose life was tragically cut short in 1999.

W.T. Gray Scholarship in Microbiology

This award is given to an upper-year student in recognition of outstanding achievement in a microbiology course. The award was originally established in 1984 by the St. Lawrence Starch Company in memory of Mr. W.T. Gray and his lifelong service to the company.

Jackie Hart Memorial Scholarship

This award is given to the student in the Biology Specialist Program with the highest overall academic standing at the end of their third year. The award was originally established in 1978 by Jackie Hart's family, friends, and colleagues. Jackie was a student at Erindale College whose life was tragically cut short in a house fire. She was an exceptional scholar who was highly regarded by her classmates.

Pynn Family Paleontology Award

This award is given to the student with the highest academic standing who is enrolled in a paleontology program. It was established in 2012 by Dr. Bruce Pynn, a UTM alumnus, to recognize undergraduate students pursuing paleontology who have also demonstrated financial need.

On the recommendation of the Associate Dean (Sciences), this award is presented to the undergraduate Erindale student who has achieved the highest academic standing in a biotechnology course or program at UTM.
