Research Excellence Postdoctoral Fellows Program (REPFP)

The Office of the Vice-Principal, Academic & Dean (OVPAD) is pleased to announce the launch of the University of Toronto’s Research Excellence Postdoctoral Fellows Program (REPFP).

Sponsored through a cost-sharing initiative between the Office of the Vice-President & Provost (60%) and UTM’s OVPAD (40%), this program is designed to strengthen postdoctoral recruitment and professional development across all three campuses at a time when top global talent is exploring new pathways. The REPFP aims to strategically enhance the postdoctoral experience while positioning the University of Toronto as a premier destination for emerging independent scholars.

Under this program, 100 new two-year postdoctoral appointments will be funded across the University of Toronto. Each division has been allocated a specific number of fellowships to award over the program duration. UTM has received funding for six fellowships, with up to three to be granted in the first year, in alignment with the university-wide allocation model.

Designed to attract exceptional talent from around the world, the program seeks outstanding emerging scholars, both domestic and international, who demonstrate exceptional promise and the potential to make a significant impact at the University of Toronto and beyond.

Each fellowship will provide:

  • Full cost of a two-year postdoctoral salary ($80,000 per year) and associated employer costs are covered by the program.
  • An additional $10,000 annually in independent research funding.
  • Top-up funds may be contributed by supervisors.

The departmental internal deadline for receipt of applications is February 16, 2026.  Please forward applications to David Pettinicchio and Akwasi Owusu-Bempah.
