Daniela Campisi ›  Data Scientist, Roche / Genentech

My name is Daniela and I was the class president of the MBiotech DHT Class of 2022. I currently work at Roche / Genentech as a Data Scientist in a global team that uses clinical and molecular data to drive insights for early research decisions and clinical trial development. Before MBiotech, I studied Biomedical Science at Toronto Metropolitan University where I completed an Honour’s thesis in molecular biology and discovered an interest in statistics and programming.

MBiotech’s new DHT program gave me the perfect opportunity to combine my all of my passions together in order to better serve the science community. I developed my data science skills, became and expert in multiple programming languages, and learned the concepts of machine and deep learning. I was also able to build the business acumen and collaboration skills needed to enter the biotech industry. The program also gave me the fortunate opportunity to intern at Roche where I have been employed ever since, and even twice promoted. During MBiotech I developed my data science skills, became and expert in multiple programming languages, and learned the concepts of machine and deep learning. I was also able to build the business acumen and collaboration skills needed to enter the biotech industry. My advice would be to open to all opportunities that come your way. Sometimes, unexpected chances can lead to great outcomes. While it's important to focus on your goals, don't limit yourself to a narrow path. Explore various options, even if they don't align perfectly with your initial plans. Every opportunity provides a chance to learn and grow, ultimately contributing to your successful career journey. The most memorable experiences were the times I shared with my classmates during group projects or in between and after classes. I am thrilled to say that in addition to a helpful professional network I have gained an amazing new group of friends thanks to the program. I was unanimously appointed as class president by my classmates. I was able to provide feedback that made positive improvements to the program for future students. I was the top choice by employers for 4 of the jobs that I applied to, giving me the option to select the role that was best aligned to my goals.
