Internship in History (HIS498Y5)

 

HIS498Y5 Internship in History offers students an opportunity to develop professional skill sets as they contribute to the public understanding of history and build relationships with people working in historical fields beyond the university.


Over the past several years, students have been placed at historic sites, museums, and archives such as Heritage Mississauga; the Royal Ontario Museum; Heritage Toronto; the Oakville Museum; the Toronto Holocaust Museum; the Canadian Arab Institute; Peel Art Gallery, Museum, and Archives (PAMA); The Canadian Lesbian and Gay Archives; the City of Mississauga; the Ministry of Indigenous Affairs; and others.

Prerequisite: 3.0 CGPA and 5 HIS credits (2.5 FCE) by Fall 2026

The standard minimum requirements for applicants are (1) a 3.0 CGPA, and (2) five completed history credits by Fall 2026, although applicants who come close to these requirements without yet meeting them will be considered on a case-by-case basis. Students normally apply when entering the fourth year of their degree. Applicants from other years may also be considered. For international students interested in applying, it is highly recommended that they visit the UTM International Education Centre (IEC) to discuss parameters regarding eligibility for placement work: https://www.utm.utoronto.ca/international/about-us/contact-us
