Cluster: Geospatial Systems and Geomatics

The Geospatial Systems and Geomatics research cluster cuts across human and physical domains of geography, using GIS, remote sensing and geospatial modelling to focus on quantitative spatial analysis of human activities and environmental/earth and near-earth processes.

Our research foci include:

  • measurement issues and geographical uncertainty in the spatial analysis of human activities and behaviours
  • development of data and methods for modelling environmental determinants of transport and health outcomes
  • development, validation and use of remote sensing measurements to study natural or managed systems (i.e., grassland, forest, wetland and agricultural) and detect ecosystem responses to environmental changes and human activities at multiple spatial and temporal scales
