Internship Opportunities

Summer 2023

Internship projects are based on departmental needs and the strengths of the intern, so no two projects are alike. 

Read below to learn a little bit more about each of the departments involved in the UTM OISE Higher Education Internship program.

 

Centre for Student Engagement - Accepting applications

The Centre for Student Engagement is committed to facilitating student learning and development inside and outside of the classroom, on campus and in the local community. Through our programs, services, and resources, we provide opportunities that empower students to shape their own experience and contribute to their community.

 

Role: Indigenous Excellence Orientation Assistant

Description:
 We invite those with Indigenous identity or strongly versed in Indigenuity and centred indigenous ways of knowing in pedagogy to apply for this unique opportunity. During summer 2023, they will be tasked to meaningfully develop an orientation curriculum for incoming Indigenous students that centre's the distinct needs and orientation for Indigenous students at UTM as well as an opportunity to develop community amongst peers and staff/faculty on-campus. This role will include developing an assessment strategy and working with on-campus and off-campus stakeholders to create an engaging curriculum. Applicants must be knowledgeable in access barriers which Indigenous students face coming into post-secondary to ensure they bring an anti-oppressive lens to this role. *

 

Role: Co-Curricular Record Automation Assistant

Description: As an intern within the Centre for Student Engagement, you will have the unique opportunity to support the on-going development and growth of the co-curricular record at UTM. This position will use Microsoft Power Automate to streamline and automate the CCR recognition process for student groups and on-campus partners. *

 

Role: NEXUS Training Assistant

Description: Each year, the Centre for Student Engagement, Student Housing & Residence Life and the International Education Centre train over 200 student staff. In 2022, NEXUS was formed as a committee to help streamline the on-going processes which existed to develop core trainings across all 3 units for students to take part in. This internship opportunity will allow an individual to be apart of the committee, supporting the online asynchronous content development and working with over 10 on-campus partners to support their online training module creation. Students will have the chance to develop skills in; collaboration, project management, teamwork and curriculum design. *

 

Role: Student Leader Training Assistant
Term: Summer 2023 (Hybrid)

Description: In preparation for our CSE August training, this intern will help us develop an assessment strategy for our week long training which oversees over 140+ student staff being trained across the department. This opportunity will also create a curriculum for student staff to receive on-going PD development based on a pilot project launched in 2022-2023. This intern will sit on a training sub-committee within the office and network across the institution to engage partners in best practices for student leader training. *

 

* ALL CSE INTERNS will be expected to work in the CSE’s Connect Corner which is a student/ UTM community facing front desk to connect with students, answer questions and support the offices objectives. These shifts will be scheduled based on the successful applicants schedule.

Role: Curriculum Development Specialist

Description: 
Reporting to the Supervisor, Residence Education, the Curriculum Development Specialist supports the Residence Education team in developing intentional ways of promoting and implementing the curricular framework within Student Housing and Residence Life. The incumbent will assist in developing materials such as facilitation guides. They will also sit on the Residence Curriculum Task Force and support its ongoing development. The Curriculum Development Specialist will also be a key component in taking on special projects as they relate to the Residence Education portfolios within Student Housing and Residence Life at UTM.

 

Role: Student Staff Training Coordinator
Term: Summer 2023 – (Hybrid)

Description: The Student Staff Training Coordinator is responsible for assisting in the coordinating the training of student staff members within Student Housing and Residence Life. This position serves as a member of the Student Staff Training Committee and assists the chair of the committee with the coordination of training throughout August. The Student Staff Training Coordinator ensures that all student staff members receive comprehensive and consistent training in accordance with the departmental policies and procedures.

 

International Education Centre - No positions available for Summer 2023

The International Education Centre provides a range of programs and services tailored to support and enhance the experience of our global students.
