Internship Opportunities

Winter 2023 /Summer 2023

Internship projects are based on departmental needs and the strengths of the intern, so no two projects are alike. 

Read below to learn a little bit more about each of the departments involved in the UTM OISE Higher Education Internship program.

 

Centre for Student Engagement - Accepting applications

The Centre for Student Engagement is committed to facilitating student learning and development inside and outside of the classroom, on campus and in the local community. Through our programs, services, and resources, we provide opportunities that empower students to shape their own experience and contribute to their community.

Role: Indigenous Orientation Assistant

Description: In 2021, The Centre for Student Engagement developed the ongoing Black Excellence Orientation and in 2023, plans to launch a parrel program for incoming Indigenous students to UTM to participate in an Indigenous Excellence Orientation. The intern for this initiative will help develop the curriculum, learning goals and assessment strategy for the IEO launch in September 2023. *

Description: The Centre for Student Engagement is seeking support with reviewing and organizing their website as the UTM community transitions to a new version of the Drupal website editor. The intern for this assistant role will review the CSE’s website, create a strategy for the web content, and organize the site’s structure to ensure that visitors find the information they need to get involved with the department!

Role: Interfaith Research Assistant

Descriptions: To meet the growing needs for holistic student support, this intern will help identify interfaith programming trends across post-secondary institutions locally, nationally and internationally, evaluate the student Interfaith support needs and wants at UTM, and propose recommendations for future steps. This intern will have a chance to develop curriculum and programming creation strategies, and perform assessment across student populations and post-secondary institutions.

Description: Each year, the Centre for Student Engagement, Student Housing & Residence Life and the International Education Centre train over 200 student staff. In 2022, NEXUS was formed as a committee to help streamline the on-going processes which existed to develop core trainings across all 3 units for students to take part in. This internship opportunity will allow an individual to be apart of the committee, supporting the online asynchronous content development and working with over 10 on-campus partners to support their online training module creation. Students will have the chance to develop skills in; collaboration, project management, teamwork and curriculum design.

Description: In preparation for our CSE tri-department and CSE specific training, this intern will help us develop online resources for student staff to engage with in preparation for their roles and as ongoing PD development. This intern will sit on a training sub-committee within the office and also have the chance to develop curriculum and assessment strategies for our student staff training. *

*ALL CSE INTERNS will have the opportunity to work in the CSE’s Connect Corner which is a student/ UTM community facing front desk as a representative of the Centre for Student Engagement to connect with students, answer questions and receive ongoing training for best practices for student facing skills and development

 

Student Housing & Residence Life - Accepting applications

Role: Academic Intervention Specialist
Term: Winter 2023 – (Hybrid)

Description: Reporting to the Residence Education & Transition Coordinator (RETC), the Academic Intervention Specialist aids the Residence Education unit by supporting undergraduate residence students in their academic transition to post-secondary education through Student Housing & Residence Life’s Academic Intervention Program. The incumbent will: assist in assessment of academic risk level for undergraduate residence students, conduct assessment and data analysis and support building resource networks for students having difficulty navigating the academic expectations of post-secondary education. 

Role: Curriculum Development Specialist
Term: Summer 2023 – (Hybrid)
Applications: as of November 3, 2022 (interviews will occur in April 2023)
Description: Reporting to the Supervisor, Residence Education, the Curriculum Development Specialist supports the Residence Education team in developing intentional ways of promoting and implementing the curricular framework within Student Housing and Residence Life. The incumbent will assist in developing materials such as facilitation guides. They will also sit on the Residence Curriculum Task Force and support its ongoing development. The Curriculum Development Specialist will also be a key component in taking on special projects as they relate to the Residence Education portfolios within Student Housing and Residence Life at UTM.

Role: Living Learning Community Curriculum Development Specialist
Term: Winter 2023 – (Hybrid)

Description: Reporting to the Residence Education Coordinator (REC), the Living Learning Community Curriculum Development Specialist aids the Residence Education team by supporting the academic transition to UTM of undergraduate students living in Student Housing and Residence Life’s living-learning communities (LLC). Focused on LLCs within residence, the incumbent will support in the development of specialized learning materials including facilitation guides. They will also participate in the Residence Curriculum Task Force committee to support learning in residence through on-going developments of curriculum-based initiatives.

 

International Education Centre - Accepting applications

The International Education Centre provides a range of programs and services tailored to support and enhance the experience of our global students. Committed to holistic learning, we strive to meet the diverse needs of our global students while ensuring compliance with changing government policy related to immigration and international student support from authorized educational agents.

Role: Intercultural Programs Developer & Facilitator
Term: Winter 2023 (Hybrid)

Description:  Working closely with the Student Development Coordinator, Intercultural Programs, the Intercultural Programs Developer & Facilitator will support the creation and development of advanced Intercultural programs catered to the UTM student community. The intern for this initiative will help to build curriculum and content for enhanced-level intercultural programs focused on intercultural fluency, social justice, and global and international themes. The incumbent will be responsible for researching best practices to inform the development of programs and working alongside other key campus partners to collaborate.
