Internship projects are based on departmental needs and the strengths of the intern, so no two projects are alike. 

Read below to learn a little bit more about each of the departments involved in the UTM OISE Higher Education Internship program.

 

Centre for Student Engagement - Applications for Winter 2024 open on Monday, October 16, 2023.

The Centre for Student Engagement is committed to facilitating student learning and development inside and outside of the classroom, on campus and in the local community. Through our programs, services, and resources, we provide opportunities that empower students to shape their own experience and contribute to their community.
 

Role: CSE Student Leader Training
Term: Winter 2024 (Hybrid)
Applications: November 8, 2023, 11:59 PM (EST)
Description: In preparation for our CSE May training and professional development of over 40 summer staff, this intern will help us develop our student training training and the assessment of training. This intern will sit on a training sub-committee within the office and network across the institution to engage partners in best practices for student leader training. *

Role: Volunteer Recruitment Assistant
Term: Winter 2024 (Hybrid)

Description: The Volunteer Recruitment Assistant will work with the Volunteer Working Group in the Centre for Student Engagement to review our volunteer recruitment practices & create a best practices summary for how to recruit volunteers for identity-based programming. The project will result in a best practices review & a proposal for new recruitment practices to be implemented in Fall 2024. *

Role: NEXUS Training Assistant
Term: Summer 2024 (Hybrid)

Description: Each year, the Centre for Student Engagement, Student Housing & Residence Life and the International Education Centre train over 300 student staff. In 2022, NEXUS was formed as a committee to help streamline the on-going processes which existed to develop core trainings across all 3 units for students to take part in. This internship opportunity will allow an individual to be apart of the committee, supporting the online asynchronous content development and being apart of the goals for the NEXUS 2024 training. Students will have the chance to develop skills in; collaboration, project management, teamwork and putting theory to practice.

* ALL CSE INTERNS will be expected to work in the CSE’s Connect Corner which is a student/ UTM community facing front desk to connect with students, answer questions and support the offices objectives. These shifts will be scheduled based on the successful applicants schedule.

 

Student Housing & Residence Life - Applications for Winter 2024 open on Monday, October 16, 2023.

Role: Residence Academic Intervention Intern
Term: Winter 2024 (Hybrid)

Description: Reporting to the Residence Education & Transition Coordinator (RETC), the Academic Intervention Intern aids the Residence Education unit by supporting undergraduate residence students in their academic transition to post-secondary education through the Student Housing & Residence Life (SHRL) Academic Intervention Program. The incumbent will: assist in assessment of academic risk level for undergraduate residence students, conduct assessment and data analysis and support building resource networks for students having difficulty navigating the academic expectations of post-secondary education.

Role: Residence Curriculum Development Intern
Term: Winter 2024 (Hybrid)

Description: Reporting to the Supervisor, Residence Education (SRE), the Curriculum Development Intern supports the Residence Education team in developing intentional ways of promoting and implementing the curricular framework within Student Housing and Residence Life. The incumbent will assist in developing materials such as facilitation guides. They will also sit on the Residence Curriculum Committee and support its ongoing development. The Curriculum Development Intern will also be a key component in taking on special projects as they relate to the Residence Education portfolios within Student Housing & Residence Life (SHRL) at UTM.

Role: Student Staff Training Intern
Term: Winter 2024/Summer 2024 (Hybrid)

Description: The Student Staff Training Intern is responsible for assisting with the training program for student staff members within Student Housing and Residence Life. This position serves as a member of the Student Staff Training Committee and assists the chair of the committee with the coordination of training which takes place during the last two weeks of August. The Student Staff Training Intern ensures that all student staff members receive comprehensive and consistent training in accordance with the departmental policies and procedures.

Role: Residence Living Learning Community Intern
Term: Summer 2024 (Hybrid)

Description: Reporting to the Residence Education & Learning Coordinator (RELC), the Residence Living Learning Community Intern aids the Residence Education team by supporting the preparation and development of Student Housing and Residence Life’s living-learning communities (LLCs). Focused on LLCs within residence, the incumbent will support the recruitment and selection of LLC students along with planning intentional large-scale programming for LLC students including Orientation and Faculty Field Trips. Finally, they will support the development of specialized learning materials including facilitation guides. They will also participate in the Residence Curriculum Committee to support learning in residence through on-going developments of curriculum-based initiatives.

UTM's Student Affairs & Services and Equity, Diversity & Inclusion Office - Not accepting applications for Winter 2024.

UTM Student Affairs and Services includes department that provide student services, programs, initiatives and experiences, SAS supports student development and success at UTM — both within and beyond the classroom. The Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Office (EDIO) is a campus service for all UTM community members (students, staff, faculty, and librarians). The office facilitates equity and human rights related programming, training, community engagement opportunities, and systemic change initiatives.

Applications for Winter 2024 internships will open on Monday, October 16, 2023.  Applications are due by Wednesday, November 8, 2023, 11:59 PM (EST).  The application form must be completed in full by this deadline.  Please read all instructions carefully to ensure you have submitted all required documents.
