What is ULX?

The Urban Leadership eXchange is a certificate of completion offered by the IMIx Executive Program in collaboration with the Master of Urban Innovation program at the University of Toronto Mississauga’s Institute for Management & Innovation (IMI).

Led by distinguished University of Toronto faculty, the two half-day program brings together leading researchers and practitioners to help participants promote positive economic and social change through urban innovation.

What will you learn?

The goal of the ULX program is to help professionals to better understand the relationship between cities and innovation.

Each ULX session pairs a U of T faculty member with a thought leader to explore urban innovation through one of three lenses: cities as centres of the innovation economy, as sites of technological innovation, or as sources of policy innovation.

  • Navneet Alang, Technology Columnist, Toronto Star
  • Shauna Brail, Associate Professor and Senior Associate, Innovation Policy Lab
  • Marcy Burchfield, VP, Economic Blueprint Institute, Toronto Region Board of Trade
  • Carmen Douville, Director, Ecosystem Development, MaRS Discovery District
  • Gabriel Eidelman, Assistant Professor, Teaching Stream and Director, Urban Policy Lab
  • Jennifer Smith, Manager, Corporate & Community Strategic Initiatives, City of Guelph
  • Tara Vinodrai, Associate Professor and Director, Master of Urban Innovation program
  • David Wolfe, Professor and Co-director, Innovation Policy Lab

The program is especially useful to early and mid-career professionals working in local and regional government, non-profit organizations, and the private sector who have an interest in cities, economic development, digital technologies, and public policy.
