Author! Author! UTM's annual Celebration of Books
U of T Mississauga fêted its authors at the annual Celebration of Books on Wednesday, April 26. Professor Bryan Stewart, vice-principal, research and Shelley Hawrychuk, interim chief librarian, co-hosted the annual event, which highlights faculty who have authored or edited books published in the past two years.
The Celebration of Books features books by 15 authors whose subjects cover such diverse topics as humour in photography, accounting, library sciences and Google Earth, freelance journalism, racial and criminal justice, royalty of ancient Greece and Persian art. Many of the authors will be on hand to read from their work.
“UTM’s faculty are doing great work and producing amazing books,” Hawrychuk says, noting that the festival often yields a surprise or two, such as the scholarly exploration of early Persian art by professor emeritus of biology Danton O’Day. “Every year, I am amazed by the diversity and variety, and the scholarly nature of the books produced by our faculty.”
