Kathryn Franklin holds a Ph.D. from the graduate program in Humanities at York University. After graduation, she accepted an Arts and Science Postdoctoral Fellowship in the Department of English at the University of Toronto. Before joining ISUP, she lectured at the University of Toronto Scarborough’s Department of English and contributed to the Centre for Teaching and Learning as a writing instructor. She also served as Acting Coordinator for English Language Development Support at UTSC and has taught professional communications at York University in the Faculty of Science, overseeing students in their co-op program, and providing them with experiential learning and skills development in preparation for their professional placements.
Her academic work bridges writing instruction, public speaking, editorial practice, and research in literary and cultural studies. In turn, she encourages her students to explore and appreciate the interdisciplinary connections within their own work. Her articles have appeared in journals and publications such as The Space Between, Imaginations, International Journal of Fashion Studies, Canadian Critical Luxury Studies, and World Film Locations: Berlin among others. She also served as a co-editor for the long running Canadian literary publication Descant.
