Faculty Teaching Excellence Award

Overview  

The ISUP Teaching Excellence Award recognizes ISUP instructors’ excellence in undergraduate or graduate teaching in a University of Toronto course, workshop, or program. For the purposes of this award, “teaching” includes lecturing; involvement in seminars, tutorials, or labs; online or in-person consultations; or developing and delivering RGASC programs.  

Eligibility  

To be eligible for this award, candidates must be faculty in full-time continuing positions (i.e., Teaching or Tenure Stream) at ISUP; Limited Term Appointments (LTAs) at ISUP; or sessional instructors who have taught at ISUP for at least three terms.   

Selection Criteria

Nominees for this award will be evaluated according to the following criteria:  

  • Effective instruction in courses or programming that develops students’ mastery of subject matter. 
  • Effective instruction in courses or programming that develops students’ academic skills. 
  • Inclusive teaching practices in courses or programs. 
  • Accessibility to students. 
  • Creation of outstanding learning experiences (including experiential learning, research opportunities, individual coursework, or co-curricular programs) that support students’ intellectual development. 
  • The creation or improvement of courses, curricula, programs, teaching processes, and educational materials that increase the effectiveness of teaching and learning. 
  • The creation of new and innovative teaching processes and materials, assignments, and forms of evaluation. 

Note, nominees do not need to meet all criteria in order to receive the award. 

Nomination Process  

A nomination package must be submitted via this nomination form before February 2ndof the current academic year to qualify for this award.  

The nomination package must include the following:  

  • A detailed nomination, maximum 2 pages in length (1000 words), from an ISUP faculty member specifying how the nominee meets the criteria for the award.  
  • The nominee’s updated CV. 
  • An abridged version of the nominee’s teaching dossier (which should include a statement of teaching philosophy, sample course syllabi, samples of educational materials). The dossier submitted should be no more than 10 pages. 
  • Two letters of support from colleagues, at least one of whom should be an ISUP faculty member. 

The ISUP Awards Committee will determine the recipient, based on the criteria outlined, and announce the winner before April 30th of the current academic year.
