Research and Professional Interests

Annika is a second-year PhD student in Geography with a collaborative specialization with the School of the Environment working with Professor Andrea Olive. Her research examines the design and effectiveness of Remedial Action Plans (RAPs) in addressing Areas of Concern (AOCs) in the Great Lakes, one of the world’s most vital freshwater ecosystems. She uses a collaborative governance framework to investigate how the structure and stakeholder composition of RAPs influence both the delisting of AOCs and the maintenance of ecological recovery after delisting. Annika received her Masters of Environment and Sustainability (MES) from the University of Toronto in 2024. She was the recipient of the Doctoral Recruitment Award in 2024 and the Alexander B. Lemon Memorial Award in 2025.
