Update on Quercus, the University's learning and management system

Updated: May 8 at 5:15 p.m.

Quercus remains suspended at the University of Toronto. Further updates will be available next week here and on UTogether.

Classes are continuing. Instructors will be providing information to their students on how courses will proceed. Students may also reach out to their instructors and/or registrars with any course-related concerns.

We recommend that faculty, staff and students remain vigilant against phishing emails and suspicious messages, and report any suspicious activity to the Information Security Team.

Please continue to follow best practices for protecting accounts and data, including using strong passwords and multi-factor authentication (MFA) where available. And remember, the University will never ask you to bypass your multi-factor authentication. If you receive an email requesting MFA bypass codes, please report it.

We encourage all members of our community to familiarize themselves with safety information shared by the Community Safety OfficeInformation Security, the St. George Campus Safety Fraud Prevention Hub and awareness initiative (as well as on social media), University of Toronto Mississauga Campus Safety (Fraud Prevention and Awareness), and University of Toronto Scarborough Campus Safety (Fraud Prevention).

Support resources are available for members of the U of T community who may be affected by this incident. Students, faculty members, staff and librarians have access to a range of tri-campus mental health and personal support services on the Safe & Supportive Campus page and Student Mental Health Resource page.

The University has reported the incident to the Information and Privacy Commissioner of Ontario.

General information

When severe weather on weekdays or weekends causes a campus-wide closure, a decision will be announced by 6 a.m. on this U of T Mississauga Campus Status page. If classes are underway and weather conditions cause a campus-wide closure mid-day, information will be announced and posted as soon as possible. A decision on evening classes will be posted by 3 p.m.

When classes occur in inclement weather, students who cannot attend class on campus due to travel conditions should refer to the syllabus of each affected course which generally notes how the instructor or department handles non-attendance, late submissions and missed assignments. Related questions or concerns should be directed to the instructor or academic department.

Most academic departments' contact information is available on their websites; please visit the Programs and Departments page to locate all department websites.

If there is a closure, both in-person and online courses are cancelled.

For information about what to do in an emergency, please visit U of T's Emergency Preparedness website.

How we determine campus closures

A closure means:

  • campus buildings are closed;
  • in-person and online classes, tutorials and practicals are not held;
  • meetings and other scheduled events are cancelled;
  • scheduled tests and examinations are cancelled, to be rescheduled;
  • faculty, staff and students are not to come to or remain on campus (except for students in on-campus residences and staff engaged in “essential services” as identified by the university);
  • UTM shuttle buses are cancelled (if the closure is announced mid-day, the shuttle buses operate until an hour or more after the last class on the UTM campus)

Factors that are considered in making a closure decision include: the condition of local roads, pedestrian walkways, closures of Peel school boards and major Mississauga businesses, transit service interruptions, weather forecasts, etc.

Closure decisions are communicated through communication platforms including: UTAlert, UTM homepage, UTM social media channels and digital display screens.

U of T St. George and U of T Scarborough make independent closure decisions that may differ from U of T Mississauga.

At all times, individual faculty, staff and students are reminded to use discretion when assessing the safety of travel to campus.
