Academic Advising & Undergraduate Student Resources

Academic advising is available to all undergraduate MCS students in multiple formats. Our department has two Academic Advisors: Laura Ferlito (for Mathematical Sciences and Applied Statistics matters) and Yvette Ye (for Computer Science matters). Before connecting with an academic advisor, consider reviewing the First Year Students page.

 

Drop-Ins (In-Person)

Drop-ins are held in DH3012 and are intended for straightforward/ brief student inquiries. Availability for each academic advisor will be posted on the whiteboard outside DH3012 or below. During drop-in times, he academic advisor will do their best to address all your inquiries, but if there are multiple students waiting, only the top matters will be discussed. Please avoid dropping by near the end of a drop-in period, as there is no guarantee you will be seen.

  • Drop-in times for the week of July 22, 2024: 
    • Tues, July 23 – 1:30 to 3:30 pm
    • Wed, July 24 – 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 pm

A few things to note:

  • I will do my best to fully answer your inquiries during drop-in times, but if there are multiple students waiting, I will have to focus on the top issues.
  • Avoid dropping-by near the end of a drop-in period as I cannot guarantee I’ll be able to assist you (I typically have other commitments right after).
  • If you are unable drop-in or book an appointment, feel free to email me and I’ll reply as soon as I can.

 

1:1 Advising

If you have a brief inquiry or are unable to book an appointment, you may email your questions to one of our two Academic Advisors:

Academic Advising appointments are available online (via Zoom) or in person (in office DH3012). Visit our MS Bookings page to book an appointment.

To respect our staff’s time, we ask that if you can no longer make the appointment, you cancel through MS Bookings or by emailing the advisor.

 

Group Advising

Online drop-in meetings (via Zoom) are typically before important deadlines, such as course management, program enrollment, and course dropouts. These sessions will be announced through Quercus and on our website.

Town Hall meetings (in-person) typically address popular topics such as program entry and internship opportunities, including PEY. These sessions will be announced through Quercus and on our website.
