Jane Stirling

A reading of the famous war memorial poem, “In Flanders Fields,” and a rendition of the Last Post trumpet call will be heard at U of T Mississauga’s Remembrance Day ceremony Friday, Nov. 11, in front of the William G. Davis Building.

Gilbert Cassar, president of the U of T Mississauga Students Union, will read the First World War poem written in 1915 by U of T alumnus Lt. Col. John McCrae. The Last Post, used at Commonwealth ceremonies commemorating those killed in war, will be played and the flag lowered to half staff.

In addition, piper Scott Munro, a professor of geography, will play the Lament, wreaths will be laid and there will be two minutes of silence to honour members of the armed forces who have died in the line of duty since the First World War.

The ceremony will begin at 10:45 a.m. at the flag staff in front of the Davis building. All are welcome. In the event of inclement weather, the ceremony will be held in the Meeting Place, Davis building.
