UTM's newest Spot for Grad Students and Postdocs

Whether you're looking for a place to collaborate with peers, host a grad or postdoc event, or store your belongings for the day, The Spot is here for you. Located in room 1110 on the ground floor of the Maanjiwe nendamowinan (MN) building (Anishinaabemowin name meaning the 'gathering of minds'), The Spot is a short walk away from the UTM shuttle bus stop.

Who has access to The Spot?


All grad students and postdocs across the tri-campus are welcome to use The Spot while at UTM.

UTM-affiliated grad students and postdocs have tap access to The Spot using their tap-enabled T-Card. Those who are not affiliated with UTM can request access by emailing OVPAD's Graduate and Postdoctoral Affairs Team to receive a temporary access code.

Booking The Spot


The Spot is open and accessible to all grad students and postdocs. However, access may be limited during scheduled bookings.

Booking Priorities for the Main Space

The main space is available for booking by grad students and postdocs, with priority given to:

  • Academic and professional development events for grad students and postdocs
  • Meetings related to grad student and postdoc affairs (such as TA/RA duties, etc.)

Pods within The Spot are also available for individual or small group bookings (up to 4 people). Note, food is not allowed in the pods.

Important Booking Information

  • Main space bookings require approval from OVPAD's Graduate and Postdoctoral Affairs Team at least 24 hours in advance.
  • Main space is available as a semi-private booking (i.e., pods are still accessible by others).
  • Pods are bookable for up to 2 hours per day. Otherwise, pods are available on a first-come, first serve basis. To see pod availability, visit the reservation page.
  • The space is not equipped with audio-visual technology. For AV needs, grad students and postdocs should contact I&ITS directly.
  • For catering, reach out to Conference Services, UTM's exclusive provider. Recognized student groups are eligible for a 30% discount.
