Affiliated Graduate Students

Research-stream graduate students with supervisors based at the U of T Mississauga campus may choose to change their campus affiliation to access UTM-exclusive resources and student services. Though, regardless of affiliation, many campus resources are open to all graduate students.

Professional-stream graduate students are automatically affiliated with U of T Mississauga.

Regardless of which campus a graduate student is affiliated with, the degree will reflect the University of Toronto.

I would like to know:

While the three campuses of the University of Toronto have separate undergraduate programs, research-stream graduate programs for many disciplines are shared across all three campuses.

In other words, even if your home graduate unit is housed at the St. George campus, your supervisor may be located at one of U of T's other campuses. This makes you eligible to change your campus affiliation to match that of your supervisor.

If a significant portion of your academic time (research or teaching) will be spent at U of T Mississauga because your supervisor, lab, or classroom is here, you can affiliate to make UTM your "home campus" and access supports like transportation, housing, and campus-specific funding.

Regardless of your campus affiliation, your degree and graduate program remains unchanged.

The benefits of affiliating with UTM include...

  • Unlimited fare-free access to the UTM shuttle bus, which runs between UTM and St. George campuses on weekdays and weekends
  • Unlimited fare-free access of Mi-Way, the Mississauga Transit bus network (via U-PASS)
  • Eligibility for awards and other funding opportunities exclusive to UTM grad students
  • Notifications of events and services for UTM grad students
  • Priority consideration for spaces at UTM's Early Learning Centre, the licensed child care centre on campus, as well as eligibility for child-care related support grants
  • Immigration advising through UTM's International Education Centre for three years beyond graduation, including consultation on study permits, post-graduation work permits, temporary resident visas, co-op work permits, and permanent residence
  • Access to UTM's Grad Student Lounge (DV 2068B)

First, make sure you meet the following criteria:

  • You a supervised by a U of T Mississauga faculty member
  • You are planning to spend a significant amount of academic time (research or teaching) at the U of T Mississauga campus

If you meet the criteria above, the next step is completing the form via the School of Graduate Studies portal.

Note that once you change your campus affiliation, your incidental fees will change accordingly to include services offered by U of T Mississauga. U of T's graduate student funding packages fully cover all incidental fees on any campus.

Deadlines for requesting a change of campus affiliation are the same as the SGS registration deadline at the beginning of each term. Retroactive changes are not allowed.
