Owen Colborne is a photographer/visual artist who is based in Mississauga. After earning his degree in photography he went to work for a photo studio that was an integral part of a printing company. Beginning his career in the photo lab he moved into the photo studio doing commercial photography for catalogues, flyers and advertising. Owen was involved in the early days of digital photography, spear heading the company’s move into digital commercial photography in the mid '90s. After nearly a 28-year career in the commercial photography business he joined Sheridan College as a photo technologist to complement the teaching he does in the School of Continuing and Professional Studies.

Approach to technologists role

I work with students to help them understand the technology they are working with be it analogue or digital. A solid understanding of process and technique is necessary for them to realize their vision within the realm of photography.
