Prof. Kajri Jain at the Henry Moore Institute, Leeds

Kajri Jain will deliver the lecture “When Unity Trumps Liberty: The Politics of Monumental Statues in India” on September 29. In this talk, Prof. Jain will discuss the Statue of Unity, which broke the record for the world’s tallest statue in 2018. She’ll talk about the emergence of this distinctive genre of monumental sculpture and the ways in which its efficacies are both similar and different to those of politically charged monuments elsewhere.
