Three upcoming events at the Cinema Studies Institute (Alina Obomsawin, Alexander Rodnyansky, and Hollis Frampton Screening)

The Cinema Studies Institute – with help from Innis College and the Centre for Indigenous Studies – nominated the great filmmaker Alanis Obomsawin for an honorary degree which is being conferred next Monday at the Innis College Convocation.

On this Sunday June 18th from 2 - 4pm CSI, Innis, and the Art Museum are co-sponsoring a screening of two of Alanis Obomsawin's recent films, Honour to Senator Murray Sinclair and When All the Leaves are Gone, followed by a discussion with Obomsawin moderated by Kerry Swanson of the Indigenous Screen Office.

The event is free and open to the public (all welcome!), though we ask that you RSVP in advance here: Register for this free event

Secondly, this Friday June 16th, the celebrated Ukrainian filmmaker and producer Alexander Rodnyansky will be on campus for the event "How Films Predicted the Future of Putin's Russia," an event co-sponsored by the Centre for European Russian and Eurasian Studies, The Department of Slavic Languages and Literatures, the Anne Tanenbaum Centre for Jewish Studies, and CSI. Rodnyansky produced a number of films in collaboration with the Russian director Andrey Zvyagintsev (Leviathan, Loveless) and produced such cult films as Machete Kills, Sin City, and the Wachowski sisters’s Cloud Atlas

Lastly, the Experimental Film Programming Collective has organized a very special two evening screening of Hollis Frampton's Hapax Legomena on This Thursday and Friday (June 15-16). They have secured permission to use the gorgeous print held at York University and the event is also going to serve as the celebration of CSI/Innis alumni Michael Zryd's new book Hollis Frampton: Navigating the Infinite Cinema. Mike Zryd will be present to introduce the films and talk a bit about the new book.
