DVS Professor Meghan Sutherland discusses Barbie on View to the U Podcast

DVS Professor Meghan Sutherland was recently featured on VIEW to the U: An eye on UTM academic community, a monthly podcast that puts a spotlight on UTM faculty and students from a range of disciplines. In the final episode of the season, "Blockbusters, bombs, and Barbie^TM," Dr. Sutherland and Dr. Andreas Hilfinger from the Department of Chemical & Physical Sciences discuss the two largest blockbusters of Summer 2023: Oppenheimer and Barbie.

In the episode Dr. Sutherland discusses the inadequacy of Barbie’s attempt to stage an intergenerational political intervention, its resonance with 1970s film theory, the work of Michel Serres, Maggie Gyllenhal’s directorial debut The Lost Daughter and the new television adaptation of Elena Ferrante’s The Lying Life of Adults.
