DVS professors Jill Caskey and Ruba Kana’an spent Reading Week in Cairo, Egypt, at a workshop for graduate students and faculty at the Indian Institute of Technology in Mumbai, American University in Cairo, Cairo University, Ain Shams University, and the University of Toronto. UTM International Doctoral Fellowship winners Kai Wang (Art History; DVS TA) and Yating Liao (Anthropology) also participated in this week-long on-site discussion of ancient and medieval monuments and museum collections. The workshop was spearheaded by Prof. Caskey and Prof. Ajay Rao (Vice-Dean, Graduate Studies, UTM) as part of their Connaught-sponsored Global Past Research Initiative. The GPRI seeks to foster student exchange among participating institutions and promote equity in the present by exploring the diversity of the past.
