University of Toronto Excellence Awards (UTEA)
These awards are funded jointly by the Division of the Vice-President, Research and Innovation and the Office of the Vice-Provost, Strategic Enrolment Management. The UTEA aims to provide undergraduate students with funding support to conduct summer research projects under the supervision of U of T faculty members, augmenting the formal research courses offered at U of T and helping students better understand investigative methodologies.
For the 2023 cycle, UTM will award up to FIFTEEN (15) UTEA in Natural Sciences and Engineering (NSE), NINETEEN (19) UTEA in Social Sciences and Humanities (SSH) and NINE (9) UTEA in Health & Life Sciences (HLS).
Award value - UTEA-NSE: $7,500 ($5,250 provided by the University to be matched by a minimum of $2,250 from the student’s supervisor and/or department).
Award Duration: 14 full weeks in the summer term, between May 1 and September 30.
** Important note on Faculty eligibility for UTEA: The supervisor of a UTEA-NSE recipient must be a faculty member holding an active NSERC grant administered through UTM, either as the principal investigator or the co-investigator, or have a pending application.
