‘A time of peace and care’: Holiday message from U of T Mississauga Principal Alexandra Gillespie

In a holiday message to the community, University of Toronto Mississauga Vice-President and Principal Alexandra Gillespie wished “shining moments of celebration, love and joy” to students, alumni, staff, faculty and librarians. “This is a time of peace and care – and a time to take a breath,” Gillespie says. “It's more than just OK to pause and rest; it's the good and right thing to do.”

Gillespie, who directs the Old Books New Science Lab, notes that the winter break also marks the beginning of a short leave planned back in 2020 to focus on her research. During her six-month sabbatical, Ian Orchard, professor emeritus and former VPP, has agreed to step back into the role as acting vice-president and principal for the campus.

“Here's to friends, family, and bright holidays together,” Gillespie says. “I hope that yours are filled with all the people who matter most to you.”
