Kelly is currently President of ProSpect Scientific Incorporated, a company she founded in 1996 to provide emerging automated Raman spectroscopy systems to laboratories in Canada. Kelly attended UTM (then called Erindale College), graduating with a Bachelor of Science (Chemistry specialist) in 1985. She then moved to the University of Windsor for her Masters program, graduating in 1987. Her Ph.D was completed at University of Toronto (St George campus) in 1994. Her Ph.D work was in physical chemistry, in particular Raman spectroscopy. Her post-doctoral position was at the Canadian Government CanMET laboratory, in Devon, Alberta in 1994-1996. Her education paved a clear path to the founding of her business in 1996, when she realised she had a choice between continuing on in academia or leveraging her education to build a business in her area of expertise.
