Course Evaluation Guidelines

The evaluation of teaching in undergraduate and graduate courses is a key component of the University of Toronto's commitment to ensuring the quality of its academic programs, as well as the teaching and learning experiences. This regular evaluation of teaching in courses by students collects formative data for instructors, which is used to:

  • improve teaching
  • provide summative data for administrative purposes (such as annual merit, tenure, and promotion review) and for program and curriculum review
  • provide members of the University community, including students, with information about teaching and courses at the university

The Centre for Teaching Support & Innovation (CTSI) is the home to information about Course Evaluations, which follow the Policy on the Student Evaluation of Teaching in Courses and Provostial Guidelines on the Student Evaluation of Teaching in Courses. The Program & Curriculum Unit (PCU) works with CTSI to provide divisional-level support for the evaluation of UTM courses.
