Mathematics is the art of inquiry and problem-solving. If you are a high school student interested in enriching your exposure to modern mathematics, Math Circles may be for you!
Math Circles began in Moscow in the 1950s, as an enrichment program for bright mathematics students; the class prepared for problem-solving competitions and engaged in studying extracurricular mathematical topics. The success of Math Circles expanded to an international phenomenon that is now taught in schools and universities around the world. Read more about the history of Math Circles.
Join us each week to work with professors and students from UTM’s Mathematics and Computer Science Department, on mathematical puzzles selected from a variety of disciplines, such as combinatorics, geometry, algebra, and number theory. We will cover topics that you won’t learn in a typical high school curriculum, so expect to challenge yourself and wrap your brain around new ways of thinking.
At the end of the academic year, those students with regular attendance will receive an official certificate of participation.
Math Circles will be held in person on the UTM Campus, and will resume in Fall 2025. Please complete the registration form and join the mailing list for timing and location updates, and indicate your availabilities; we will be in touch soon! See "How do I Register for Math Circles?
