Hema Ganapathy-Coleman is a professor in the Department of Psychology at the University of Toronto Mississauga (UTM) and serves as Director of the Centre for South Asian Critical Humanities at UTM. For over three decades, her research has explored the beliefs and practices surrounding parenting, children, and childhood among Indian Hindu immigrant families in the United States and Canada.

She is currently leading a longitudinal, interdisciplinary study—drawing from both psychology and anthropology—on the everyday routines of the Indian community in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA). In a second project, she is examining the complex dynamics of cultural maintenance and adaptation among Indian and Pakistani diasporic communities in Peel Region.

Dr. Ganapathy-Coleman also contributes to institutional equity as a member of the Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, and Access Committee in UTM’s Department of Psychology.
